General Questions

  • Where do I park?

    Workshop is located at 186 Oxmoor Road, No. 220, Homewood, AL 35209.  This is on the 2nd floor of the “186 building;” entrance stairwell is at the rear of the building. There is a small parking lot in the rear of the building, accessed from Scott St.There is also parking available in the front of the building; you may park there and walk around the side of Buka to find the stairwell.
    Overflow parking is available across the street to the right of Nexus Fitness, in the “old waffle house” lot.

  • What are workshop’s hours?

    Workshop is open by appointment or during scheduled classes. Reach us anytime via email using our contact form by clicking here.

  • What handicapped accessibility do you have?

    We have 2 handicapped parking spaces available near our entrance. At this time, entry to our 2nd floor requires use of a stairwell, up 1 flight of stairs.  We do not have an elevator. 

  • What is your Covid-19 Policy?

    The health and safety of our visitors is very important to us.  Workshop follows the current guidance of the CDC protocols.  During public workshop events, we provide optional masks and hand sanitizer.  During private events, we support the request of the private renters’ protocols.  Our staff is vaccinated.

    Space Rental Questions

  • Is your space available for rent?

    Our space is available for rent, typically between 7am-9pm. We have held team building workshops, board meetings, book clubs, business meetings, garden clubs and more in the past. For pricing and details, as well as to schedule a tour, check out our space rental page.

    Teaching Questions

  • How are teachers selected?

    At Workshop we aim to make the teaching experience simple and pleasant by handling the ticket sales, customer service, set-up, clean-up, technology, support staff, and handouts and feedback forms (as needed).  We want teachers to focus on their content and teaching.

  • Are teachers paid?

    Yes!  We contract with the teacher to determine a payment price based on an appropriate ticket price.  We take into account the cost of class supplies and support materials needed.

  • What kind of classes are you looking for?

    We are always developing new class options for our calendar.  We want to bring both personal and professional topics to the public in a unique way, so we are always open to exploring a topic with a teacher and determining the best fit or spin on that topic.

  • How do I apply to teach?

    You may submit your application here. This form helps us learn more about you and the class you would like to teach. After receipt, we will be in touch within 2 weeks with next steps for an interview.

  • Can I teach a private class?

    Yes, we have two options for teaching private classes that are not listed on the website.
    1. As a teacher, you may rent the space and host your own private workshop or event.
    2. Contracted teacher for our private clients - We often have local businesses and clients who would like to enjoy learning a skill during their events at Workshop.  We reach out to trusted teachers to contract-teach at a private event. 

    Workshop Attendee Questions

  • How do I purchase a seat in a class?

    You can purchase a seat online. Because we keep our classes small and spacious, we recommend purchasing in advance online. We occasionally have space to purchase a seat on-site.

  • What if I purchase a class seat but am unable to attend?

    Class ticket purchases are non-refundable or exchangeable, but you are welcome to offer your seat to a friend or family member. Please contact us ahead of the event to allow us to anticipate your absence. We will certainly work with customers in an emergency or special situation.

  • What if workshop cancels a class?

    Workshop may need to cancel a class due to extreme weather conditions, in an emergency situation, class minimum or teacher emergency cancellation.  If you cannot attend our re-scheduled date, you will be given the option of a refund or class credit.

  • Can I bring alcoholic beverages to a class?

    No, please do not bring alcoholic beverages to our public classes. We are not permitted to serve or give away these beverages. If you are looking to rent our space, a temporary permit may be obtained to have these beverages available at your event.

  • How can I provide feedback about a class I took?

    Your feedback is very important to us and helps us make future classes even better! Please email us at info@workshoplocal.com or submit a form.

  • Is there a minimum age to attend a class?

    Well, it depends! The age minimum for a class is set by the teacher of the class, or, in some cases, if the classes involves making some sort of alcohol. Age suggestions and restrictions are noted within each class description.
