She discovered Birmingham Fashion Week, made a goal to be one of their featured designers, and then won the BFW 2016 Emerging Designer Competition. She and her young family made a way to allow her to work with him for 6 months, 2 days at a time, developing her craft and honing her seamstress skills. She was like nah uhhhh and shut that business down fast with the lesson of “if you’re gonna do it, you’re gonna do it right”. Small purses made on my mom’s sewing machine soon turned into bags which then turned into curtains… lampshades... skirts…. even shoes! - you name it and I was probably trying to figure out a way to make it. Thanks to my mama Fast forward 19ish years… I had a high risk and very scary pregnancy with our second baby, Lou, from the very beginning. I left my job of almost 10 years to take care of myself and my pregnancy. After delivery, Lou spent 103 days in the NICU at Children’s and it was absolutely the hardest thing we’ve ever walked through as a family. Five months separated the day my water broke and the day Lou came home. I lost so much of myself and things I loved during that time. We were living minute-by-minute and hanging on in survival mode. Lou was finally discharged on August 2, 2022 and I spent the next three months sitting at home and holding both of my babies. In October of 2022, I wanted Mac and Lou’s names added to their Halloween costumes so I called my friend Taylor Walhood for help with all of the hand embroidery tips. What was supposed to be two costumes soon became entire wardrobes for my children because I immediately fell. in. love. My previous job was in apparel design, my degree is in graphic design, & my passion has always been creating hands on art (remember the hot glue purses?! ). I love handwritten anything, dabbling in calligraphy, and giving personalized gifts. I realized quickly that hand embroidery merged everything I’ve ever loved and allowed me to play with my most recent obsession - children’s clothes!
